… is an award-winning writer and editor. She researches, analyzes and clearly explains complicated topics, educating both readers and colleagues.

For nearly a decade, she wrote daily editorials on a wide range of local and state issues affecting her newspaper’s community and region. The South Carolina Press Association noticed, repeatedly citing her work as the best in the state. Now she joins her husband, Greg, to help imediaSmith clients.
After moving to Colorado in 2013, she helped Western State Colorado University create some 50 academic program descriptions and profiles. With Greg, she helped organize and market the first Wet Mountain Western Pilgrimage. She now serves as development director of the San Isabel Land Protection Trust.
As a mother of three and the managing editor of a busy newsroom, Janet learned to prioritize tasks as she supervised both people and processes. Whether coaching others to be more effective communicators, editing, reporting on people and events, or presenting a reasoned position, she emphasizes clarity, accuracy, and complete, well-researched – yet concise – communication.
She’s also adept at teaching others what she’s learned about effective communication. Janet has staged popular workshops to help nonprofits publicize their events, ideas and accomplishments. She draws on her experience as a newspaper editor, as well as tracking and reporting on local, state and national legislative issues for a 1,500-member chamber of commerce.
Janet also worked with the chamber’s education partners and a community leadership development program that explored state and local government, education, team building, culture and history.
Earlier in her career, she and her husband, Greg, helped launch and establish an independent business magazine, a city magazine and a weekly newspaper.
Janet holds Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Kansas. While at KU, she worked for the dean of its School of Business, compiling information for a successful reaccreditation, and writing and producing the Business School alumni publication.
